Buds Breakdown Study Of Hebrews 12:1

Hebrews 12:1 (King James Version)

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us

(My View)

In Hebrews chapter 11, we see a lot of the great works of the Old Testament heroes and heroines of faith. Men and women who had great faith in God and some who had even laid down there lives for there faith. The writer of Hebrews uses, in chapter 11, these Old Testament men and women to encourage the New Testament body of believers. He starts chapter 11 with the deceleration “faith is the substance (assurance or confirmation) of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Then he says “and without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” After going through the list of mighty faith filled warriors, he then says “and these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise.”

He is in other words saying, all the great men and women of the Old Testament, who through faith, pulled down strongholds, crossed the uncross able waters, won incredible battles, had not even received the full promise. That full promise being Christ. So now we as the church, have received at Calvary, what all they had waited and hoped for. They had full faith in the promise that they had not yet obtained, we must that much more come to a deeper realization of full mature faith, having obtained the full promise. For without coming into deeper faith, we cannot fully please God. So now let me try to break down verse 1 of chapter 12.

(The Breakdown)

Since we, like the faithful men and women of the Old Testament, also have on every side this great amount of people, who has seen us (our lives and walk with Christ) and have seen through us, His truth, we must now pull off (throw aside and stop walking back to) everything that is not Christ-like, that drags us back down and becomes a weight to us (and the Body of Believers), and let us through the power of Christ, kill and permanently walk away from every sin that is so ready to cleverly cling back to us (and entangle us, and harass us, and cage us back in and make us surrender to the surrounding elements of flesh and despair), and lets run, as mighty men and women, with and in the habit of patient praise. Bearing the pains and trails calmly without complaint, and not hasty, but being steadfast and steady, with great holy persistence, despite the opposition, difficulty and adversity of) the course of our life that is set before us. That we may not be a block to stumble over or a hindrance to those around us, and become a poor testimony of Gods Grace and Holiness.

(Last Thought)

It is crucial that we enter into deeper Understanding, Faith and Holiness.
