The Still Place

Things seem to be getting kind of shaky here lately in the world. Parents killing their kids and kids killing their family. Drugs running rampid. Teen pregnancy at an all time high. The number of abortions rising higher everyday. Homosexuality raging through the land free and proud. Lust burning in hearts for more money, power and possession. The economy spinning out of control, to the point of collapse, driving people to drugs and alcohol, causing them to commit suicide. Jobs being lost left and right, homes being foreclosed upon. I say things are getting pretty shaky!

One Saturday night, not to long ago, I went to bed with the expectation that I would fall asleep pretty fast but, an hour after I lay down I found myself still awake. Wondering why, I crawled out of bed and stumbled to the refrigerator for a cold drink of water. On my way back to bed, I decided that maybe God wanted me to pray. So, I knelt down at my bedside and prayed. The more I prayed, the more I wanted to praise. After praying, I read Psalms 18: 1-3.  I will love thee, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

These verses connected with my spirit, because I have found Him to be all that and more. As I continued to think about how wonderful my Lord is, in praise I wrote these words down, as like a personal Psalm: "Jesus is my Still Place on shaking ground! He is the Strength in my weakness, the Greatness of my powerless soul, the Life of my dead body, I am nothing but, He is EVERYTHING!"

I can and must rest in and on him. You can too. He does not want us to have our eyes on this world and be scared. No! Jesus wants to be 'our Still Place' in the midst of this shaking world. It's up to us if we let go and rest. He will take care of those who trust in him to be their everything. Although the world is being shaken down to nothing, if we stand on 'the Still Place' we will remain unharmed!
