Beloved, is your heart growing cold to the things of God? Are you not excepting His dealing with you in some area of your life? Almost every time a heart begins to get hard toward God it is because of a secret sin somewhere deep in that heart. Perhaps a sin that is not very visible to even your own eye. A habit that you have just had for many years, but when God deals with you in the smallest way don’t turn Him away from you. If we could just realize that God never convicts us of anything that does not hurt His heart, we would see that God dealing with our heart is such an act of love… not Him trying to be a harsh God. He only convicts us of things unlike Himself. Don’t continue playing with conviction… conviction is one of the deepest acts of love known to man. Don’t turn your heart away from God’s convicting love, or a hard heart will set in if it hasn’t already.
When David sinned with Bathsheba, God dealt with David through the prophet, and when the message had been delivered to David, he could either allow God to deal with him or turn away. If David would have turned away to God’s pleading call, he would have been just another great King that went down in middle reign. But because David allowed God to deal with him, he was considered a man after God’s own heart.
“Take not thy Holy Spirit from me” David begged. He knew that if God would withdraw Himself from dealing with this sin in his heart that he would die lost. So, in other words King David is begging God… “Please… don’t let me get by with this sin, and don’t remove yourself from me for allowing it to go on so long! Don’t let me force your presence away! Break this hard heart, so we can live in unbroken fellowship once more. Take my heart… just don’t take your Spirit of love away from me.”
Beloved, we have to allow God to break us so He can cut the cancerous sin out of us. He cannot cut sin out of a heart that is cold and hard. He demands that we come to our knees with a humble spirit answering His begging call of love for us to get it right, while with a similar begging plead for Him to help us get it right. If you have a hard heart, things just isn’t as warm as they once were, beg God to deal with you once more, and let this Loving Savior have your hard heart.
