Look Away

The verse that God keeps bringing me back to these past few weeks is Hebrews 12:2, and it says, “Looking unto Jesus…”

I believe the Lord is preparing to show me this verse in the fullest sense, so if I write about it more in the future just bear with me. I felt God wanted me to read this verse last week, and I opened up to read in my normal reading bible, which is the King James Version/Amplified Bible parallel. As I read this verse that I have quoted many times before, I took note of the phrasing in the Amplified bible. It says, “Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus…”

Beloved, this is the key to the Christian life. Before we can ever look unto Jesus, we have to look away from the world. We have to turn our eyes from the distractions of life. This doesn’t mean that these things we look away from Spiritually are things of sin, but if we continue to allow these obstacles in the view of Christ then they will assuredly become sin. There comes a time when we have to stop looking at our spouses, and even the wonderful blessings of our Christian life, and we have to hide away until we see Jesus again. Speaking to the young people now, as a young person, I understand what it is like to be busy working in God’s service while still trying to keep a balanced relationship with those I love. Yes it sometimes gets hard, and it is our nature to choose our earthly loves over God, but we must realize that the gifts are not greater than the Giver. He gives us gifts to enjoy, and we can do so, but we must learn when to look away from those gifts and thank the Giver. We must look away, and look to Jesus, for He is the fullness of this Christian life and without seeing Him we perish.
