The string Thought & Shouting Before the Walls Come Down

The String Thought

As a guitar picker I know my fair part about guitar strings. It just so happens that I am writing this particular story because of an incident I had at church this past Sunday morning. “I’ll fly away” is what we were singing when all of a sudden in the middle of the song I was disturbed by a pop. I looked down at my guitar neck and seen the string laying limply across my hand. It had broken under pressure. No sooner than I seen the string and pulled it out of the way than it was time for my solo break. Needless to say I was wounded as a picker but by His help managed to make it through the break. As soon as I could I left the platform and went to find another string. Sitting in the seat putting the new string on is where I thought about this devotional.

The string when freshly put on the guitar will almost instantly slide back out of tune when first tuned normal. You then must place the string under a few moments of intense pressure with a step that I simply call “stretching”. When stretching a string I normally tune the guitar a half-step higher than the usual tuning and physically pull the string away from the body of the guitar. After I release the string I tune it back up to the same place and repeat the action again. Each time this pressure upon the string is brought to breaking point. In a few moments the string will be holding tune and not sliding flat under pressure just as it was intended to do. Dear soul, God many times places us in positions of intense pressure. We mostly grumble and complain but we truly should be thankful. Out of these moments God is “stretching” us to perform His perfect tune through us. He will not use someone that will always flatten under the pressure so He has to bring us to our breaking point that we may learn to be strong in Him. He literally is stretching the world out of us. Beloved, it is all for His Glory. Be patient.

The Wife’s Note: Shouting Before the Walls Come Down

I know many times in this Christian walk we all face troubles and trials and sometimes we grow weary. In the bible it states that Joshua and the Israelites marched around the wall once each day for seven days and seven times on the seventh day.
I’m sure at times Joshua and the Israelites felt as if the walls were not going to fall down. In the midst of their problem however they shouted and kept on walking around that wall. Though sometimes we become discouraged in our trials we must realize that the same God that is in our good times is the same God that is in the bad times with us. We are not alone! We must keep shouting, keep worshiping, keep praising, keep on seeking the face of God. Just because our circumstance has changed does not mean our God has. God will not let you down, because he is God. Things may seem like they will not change, but just be still and know he is God. He will fix things right on time. God wont put more on you that you can bear. So let us be thankful that we have a God like this! Let us be thankful for our trials! Let us shout even though the wall is still before us.
