Hebrews 12:10 (King James Version)
For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.
(My View)
The writer continues his analogy of natural father and Heavenly Father. He uses this comparison simply because for most its easy to comprehend. Most all have a father figure they look up to. So he is saying this comparison is like trying to compare nothing (fleshly earthly fathers) to Everything (Our Heavenly Father), but hey think how much you love nothing (fleshly earthly fathers)… and think how much more you should love Everything (Your Heavenly Father)!!
(Keep This In Mind)
To partake means--
1 : to take part in or experience something along with others
2 : to have a portion
3 : to possess or share a certain nature or attribute
(The Breakdown)
Now the fathers we had in the natural that would chasten us and correct us, they could only teach us (through chastening and discipline) to the best of their ability. And they would chasten us as it seemed good unto them (how they thought it should have been conducted, and in the way that made best sense to their human understanding.) But our Heavenly Father has a deeper plan, and knows all. He chastens us for our own good, that we may gain valuable return, in not only the spirit, but in the natural as well. For He is literally bringing into perfect unity and oneness, Christ’ heart with ours. For He asks us to pick up our cross and follow Him all the way, and go through tough chastening, that we may be brought to the place where we are made to partake with Him (take part in or experience, have a portion of, or to share with Him, to be grafted into, His nature of) Holiness (Sanctification & Perfect Completeness.)
(Last Thought)
Think about how amazing it is to have a chance to suffer the chastening of the Father for a short while, to literally be grafted into the nature of Christ!! That should be enough for us all to stand and proclaim “chasten me Father!! For I desire to be like Christ!!” Double check your life today and see if your true want is to 1, be more like Christ, and 2, be willing to obtain that through the Fathers chastening.
