In Isaiah chapter 49 we read where God the Father is talking to His chosen people, often referred to as His Wife, and giving them wonderful promises of His love for them. Just as the New Testament speaks of Christ and the body of believers as Christ’ Bride, or His Wife to be.
Here He speaks to them and tells them He has heard their cry! He is on the move to come near them! He is not going to let them die in pain or bondage. He proudly proclaims in verse 13 through the prophet Isaiah, “Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the LORD hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon His afflicted.” And then in verse 14 he says paraphrasing, “you chosen people, the one that has had the Lords eye for many years, you have said the Lord has forsaken me, and the Lord has forgotten me,” but then the Lord speaks back and says in verse 15, “a mother may forget her own baby, which she is supposed to feed and take care of, but I The Lord Will NEVER FORGET my people!!”
The Lord is once again speaking to His people showing them His great love, and reminding them He has not forgotten them in their time of great need. So to make His point more clear, He says another great comment of love to His children. Verse 16, “Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.” So in other words He is saying “I love you so much… I have planted in the palms of my hands a mark that says I love you! You are mine!! You have me. That is why I have put these marks in my holy hands. And I constantly have my eyes upon you. I see and look out for you at all times! If you do not believe me, just look at my hands.”
When you study the meaning of this hand engraving, you find that it was a sign and symbol of affection and zeal. So for the Father to do this, and make this statement was very loving.
Now seeing the Fathers love for His Wife, enough to let His hands be engraved, look at the love of Christ for His Bride. It seems to me that I can hear those same words ringing, but only from our Saviors mouth today since The Cross of Calvary!! He is saying “I know you have been waiting on me, Love. I know you feel like I have forgotten you!! And you feel forsaken by me. I know!! But I Am Here!! I will not let trials of any kind overtake you!! I will not let you die in bondage!! Sing, O Heavens; and be joyful, O earth!! Just sing with victory!! For I love you even though you have slapped me in the face! I love you even though you have pushed me away!! I love you even when you hurt me, and question my very character. I still love you!!! And if my words are not enough for you… If you still do not believe me… just look at my hands.”
