Hebrews 12:17 (King James Version)
For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.
(My View)
Now the writer seen it necessary to remind the body of believers of the story of Esau. He seen the tragedy of trading the blessing, and he seen the often overlooked pain in Esau’s mistake. He is in other words saying… “after Esau made this horrible mistake, when the time came that he would have inherited the blessing of his life, he was turned away empty. All because one willful sin stole something he could never get back. As much as his father would have loved for him to obtain… he couldn’t. Even though he searched for ways through prayer and tears.”
(Keep This In Mind)
Although the bible doesn’t say this, we can probably imagine the pain that Esau’s father felt in his heart the day he heard the news his son traded his blessing for one small fling of the flesh. But we must remember that once the birthright was sold… it was non refundable. He lost it forever. Not all sins will permanently take away your blessing… but there is some blessings you will miss from all sins.
(The Breakdown)
Now you see and understand that when he was ready to receive the blessing from his father (or when the bowl was empty) that he couldn’t receive, for he had been rejected (disqualified) because he had spent His time belching on his flesh, and had been so preoccupied that he didn’t find time to fix his tragic mistake through brokenness of heart, and repentance. Although he searched… it was to late. He lingered to long.
(Last Thought)
Don’t let go of the blessing that is coming to you!! If you trade out… you may never get it back!! Even though your Father in Heaven would love to. Some things you just cant change.
