John 17:24, “Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.”
Again, there is a lot of meat here, so lets just jump swiftly to the point.
Here in John chapter Seventeen, we find Christ Jesus, praying for those he loved. For the sake of time I wont go into great detail of this whole prayer. But dealing with our text, we see here, Christ’ true heart for His believers. In essence He was saying, “O Father, I greatly desire, that these you have brought to believe on me, and who you have given to me, (these here now, and those that will come to believe on me throughout the span of time before my second coming), should be brought also to where I am presently.”
Now it is very important for us to realize where this place is Christ is speaking of, here in this verse. Most bible scholars take Christ’s words, and say He is speaking of Heaven. But I believe this to be a more direct place, and not in Heaven. Looking at the time these words was spoken by Christ, is what brings a significant revelation. These words are spoken right before Christ would enter into the Garden of Gethsemane, so therefore making them some of the last words His disciples would hear before His death. These words was made to be words of comfort. Christ wasn’t speaking of literally just wanting believers with Him in Heaven, when He should ascend there to set at the right hand of the Father. No! He was literally saying, “Father, I want them to be where I am now! In this present state I dwell.” You ask, “where was Christ at?” let me tell you, beloved. Christ was meaning for us to be brought into His likeness! For He, being the Son of God, already had the Glory of God, within Himself. He was already living His life in Glory, that was given by His Father. But we, (being also those with the disciples, whom the Father has given Him)had no way to behold His Glory. The word “behold”, means more than to just simply see. It means to literally enjoy or be participating in, as to live within His Glory! See, beloved, Christ was saying, “Father, I know where I will be in just a few short hours. But I desire these I love, to have the way to live in my Glory! I desire them to move and breathe, through and in my Glory. So I will go and die, that they through my death, may be able to take upon themselves my life. For my life, is nothing less than the total Glory of you.”
Beloved, we have been given access to live in the Heavenly Glory of God Almighty, upon earth. Why don’t we take this grand offer? Is it because we are to filled with self, and not enough of Christ, to even see the Heavenly Glory He brings? I have purposed in my heart today, I wont stop, until I am sure I am living in His Glory! “How do I live in His Glory” you ask? By taking on His exact nature! It is not just a one time thing, but also a continual thing. We must always be moving on with Him, coming to deeper levels of His life. But, beloved, the key is to simply learn to live His life. For in living His life, we are able to live in His Glory!
