Revealing The Unknown

1 Corinthians 2:9, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”

Most Christians can quote this passage of scripture very fluently. We have heard it preached, spoken in testimony, and even in a round about way, mentioned in song. But, beloved, the context we try an use this verse is often misinterpreted. We thrill the hearts of people, as we preach how grand this place will be that God has prepared for “them that love Him.” We speak of our Heavenly home, that God is building for us. We paint the most beautiful pictures of Golden streets, and eternal Son-shine, and then we sum it up with, “and just think, we cannot even imagine what this place, God is building us now, is like!!!!” As we shout the victory, and worship God for what He has prepared for us, we fail to realize that, yes there is a literal Heaven, and it will be magnificent there,… but this verse isn’t speaking of a literal Heaven at all.

I was shocked while one day going down the road, reading and enjoying fellowship with my Savior, when I stumbled across this verse. And as I read, I too began to try and imagine this place God Almighty was preparing for me. Then I did what few others do… I read the next verse… and to my surprise it says, “But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God” 2:10.

Automatically my mind began to race with thoughts. “If God is preparing a place for them that love Him,… and.. I love Him, …but by His Spirit He revealed these things He has prepared,… how come I say He hasn’t?! and what is it He has prepared?! If He has something prepared for me, and I can know it now while on earth… I want to know!”

Through much prayer and thought, I soon found that I had been missing a whole segment of what God desires to give me, simply by misunderstanding this verse. The fact is, yes there is a literal Heaven, but Paul here is speaking of something that was only made to be obtainable because of Christ’ death and resurrection, and returning to the Father! What God had prepared for them that loved Him, this thing that was so deep, so unimaginable, so incomprehensible,… was literally… Himself!! You say, “what do you mean?” let me explain. He literally sent to us, on the day of Pentecost, His exact total nature! The Holy Ghost is the total nature of God Almighty! So this great thing God has prepared for all those that love Him, was literally God giving the gift… of His total nature (The Holy Ghost). This, before Christ made the way for us to God Almighty, was never possible to see, nor even half way imagine! But now, through God giving us such a gift, we are able to literally understand, those hidden parts of God! This isn’t my word, this is the word of God. So, we see now, this is one reason why we must be filled with the Holy Ghost! For through this God the Holy Ghost, is revealed to us, the unknown nature of God Almighty.
