2 Timothy 2:3-4, “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.”
The scriptures above, was some of the first verses the Lord led me to after my born again experience. Since the time of first reading these verses, I have studied a lot of other scriptures, but every so often, the Lord leads me back here again. And today I was looking over some notes I had written late last year, and found these verses jotted down. So, I picked up my bible and began to read, and very soon I knew that God had led me back to these verses again.
Over the course of the Christian walk, sometimes we forget we are soldiers, fighting flesh, hell and compromise. Oftentimes we began to take root to the ways of life on earth just a little to much, and God again will come and, as He so lovingly does, began to pull our roots out of this earth. We are not called to make a life down here on earth, but rather, called to die that Christ may live through us. Our time for living is not in this world, but in the Glory world, where we shall worship, reign and rule with Christ. But today, we are simply soldiers.
I found a great illustration, while studying this verse out. One in which I will share now. While the Roman Empire was ruling, it is said that one of the rules to be a Roman Soldier, which was the greatest conquering army in the world at that time, you was not at all allowed to marry, nor engage yourself in matters that was of a life not of a soldier. The reason for this was, they believed that if a soldier was to marry, and take root in the world around him, he would soon be distracted from his call of duty, and would become a weak soldier, unworthy to be joined together with such a great and mighty army.
Beloved, this is how it is for us today as well. Although I am not saying that Christ doesn’t want us to marry, have a family, and work to obtain a good life, I am saying that, all of this should be secondary, and should not be your real concern at all. Christ will guide all things for us where they should be, but your main concern should be on fighting a good fight. We must forget the civilian life, and move into the life of Christ. We have to stop worrying about all the cares of this present life, and only be concerned with one thing- pleasing Him. He is our Commander. He is to be the one in control, and we should worry about nothing else than pleasing Him.
I feel the Lord is just telling me again, “Son, this world is soon coming to an end, and I have called you to be a Soldier. I have called you to stand against flesh, hell, and compromise. Don’t be weary with the battles, and don’t tangle your life all up where I cant use you any longer. Keep your mind, time, spirit, and body totally in this good fight of faith. You enlisted two and a half years ago, and you said you would be my lifelong soldier, so don’t return back to the life of a civilian. Don’t use your body, mind, and time to try and build anything in this earth, for you are just passing through here. This is not your true Home. You are a citizen of another place much greater than the earth around you. So just lay all your wants, all your desires, everything about you aside, and only be concerned with pleasing me, and I will see that you live a life of victory on earth, and then one day soon you can come Home, and we will be together face to face, and all your battles will be over forever. So just choose to please me, Son.”
I do believe this is what the Lord is telling me, but I also believe He wants this to be the message to you also, beloved. Whatever you choose is up to you, but I choose to humbly reply to my Wonderful Commander, “Lord, whatever you desire, …I desire also. I will not live this life for me, but I kill all my wants, ways and plans, and ask that you see me, and live through me. Anything you want to do with my life is okay, for I am completely available for you. …I just want to please you. Amen.”
