The Only Way To Worship

While having personal study time yesterday, I read over a verse that I have hear quoted many times before, but had never really fully understood. The verse is John 4:24, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” As I said, I didn’t fully understand the meaning of Christ’ words, so I began to study deeper. I thought I had a idea of what it meant, but I wanted to be sure. After I pretty well understood it, I asked my papaw what He thought it meant. And I have come to understand it to mean a lot for us today.

When the verse was spoken, Christ was talking to a Samaritan women. He was telling her what must be, for her to be saved, and even how to worship God Almighty. Now, what Christ was saying to this Samaritan women, is also true for us today. What He means when He says, “God is a Spirit” is that, God is literally a Spirit Being. This means that no one can contain Him. He is greater than all! You cant box Him up in any certain one place, He is everywhere! He fills all things! He governs all things! He is a Spirit! A thought such as this is almost incomprehensible for the human mind to bear. I could write page after page on this topic alone, and would have to retire by simply saying, “He is to great to ever explain in human words… you just have to know Him for yourself to truly even began to understand.” But now seeing this, we realize we cant even fully understand such greatness in our earthly minds, how then can we worship this great God?! Beloved, we will never be able to worship this Almighty God in flesh. There is only one way. Christ gives us the answer here, “in Spirit and in Truth.”

I do believe with all my heart what Christ is saying is this, “before you can ever truly worship such a marvelous, mighty, magnificent, simply great God in His fullness… you must be filled with His Spirit. You must be filled with the Holy Ghost. Do note beloved, I believe all Christians can worship God, filled or not, but the only way to worship in entirety this Spirit God, is by being filled with His nature, character and exact Being… the Holy Ghost. It is through the Holy Ghost we are made to know the deep things of God (1 Corinthians 2:10). So we must realize the necessity, and the greatness of being filled with the Holy Ghost. O how I long to be filled! If you are not filled, beloved, and you are born again, you must desire above all to be filled. For it is through this that, we are able to worship such a great God, in deeper level.

Then we find the second way we are called to worship, “in truth”. The meaning of this is, we must line ourselves up with the truth of the word of God. By living within the word of God, we do honor this great Almighty God! He is Holy… and anything that will truly worship Him must be found Holy, and living by His word. Beloved, this is why we must read and store His word within us.

By this verse, we realize the importance of being filled with the Holy Spirit, and living closely within the word of God. So let us be filled, and live deeply in the pages of His word… because this is the only way to fully worship Him.
