“Father… I need you!” I would often whisper, while first coming to know Him. I remember when I would find myself in a storm, where I would seem to be alone, and as if I was tottering on the edge of spiritual collapse, these words would be the only thing I could think to say. Sometimes I would be in prayer just spending time with God, with my face against the floor, I would hear myself say, “Father, I need you.” I can easily remember how tender my heart would become, as many times tears would slide down my face. But things change over time. As we become more knowledgeable in Christ, sometimes we forget the simple things that brought us to where we are. It isn’t that it is a sin to become deeper, in fact it is a sin to not come deeper with Him, but I believe that sometimes it does the heart good to think back to when we first became born again. When just thinking of being in the presence of Almighty God brought us to humble tears. Today I wish to pray again, this prayer that seemed to find the heart of God very simply.
Father… I need you. I cannot live in this world alone, I need you to be near me. I desire you, Lord! Hear this humble prayer, and let me find grace in your sight once more. Your word says you will never leave me, and you will draw near to me if I draw near to you. Well Father, here I am. I am doing all I know to be near you, and I simply cry with a heart of open confession… I need you!! I know I make many mistakes. I know I step out of your will for my life so much. I know I am not at all worthy to call you to me, but I ask in faith for you to be near me. I trust you! I love you! I want you! Father!!!!! I desperately need you!! ….I need you.
Beloved, for just a moment think back to one of the first intimate prayers you and our Heavenly Father have shared. Maybe even you can pray that prayer again today. One prayer I am sure we all can share is this simple prayer that I have just prayed again. Let us never rise above knowing that we need Him. Let our heart always say, “Father… I need you.”
