Confessing Christ

John 12:42-43, “Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.”

In the reading of our text today, we can see that we are speaking of two direct opposites. One, being the Christ, whom in which the others, being the chief rulers, believed on. By this text we can see that although the chief rulers believed on Christ Jesus as Lord of All, they would refuse Him as King of their hearts. Why, being so close to Life, would they still choose death? They knew in their hearts that Christ was the answer, but they would not confess.

Beloved, some of you reading this will attend church on a Sunday, and come to the realization that you believe Christ is real, only to attend school on a Monday, and with your actions and silenced voice, reject Christ. Today the message in the hearts of most people is this, “just believe on Christ, and everything else will be just fine” but, dear soul, this is only half of what must be done. “Faith without works is dead” says James, the epistle write, just as your believing of Christ is dead, unless you “confess with your lips” and actions that, Christ is the Lord of your Life.

These men that believed on Christ would refuse to confess Him, simply because of their position they had obtained with the religious crowd. I have ascertained that most of the people in church on Sundays, will not profess Christ on Mondays because they are not truly born again. They love to appear religious on Sundays, but don’t want to be spiritual on Mondays because their social club buddies will mock, and they may lose their position with the bigwig cronies that make them feel special. The only conclusion they must come to is that they must be truly and fully born again. To simply believe on Christ is not the fullness of the born again experience, but to confess Christ is also a step that must be taken. Not just simply confessing through testimony, but even more so through actions.

I know this is, for many, a message that you have already placed in effect with your born again experience, but how long has it been since you have confessed Christ in your daily walk? I believe that if we fail to confess Christ often, He will become as a pool of water without a flow, and a stagnant Christ is just the same as a dead one. For Christ to become stagnant and dead within us means we have become backslidden. We must confess Christ everyday with our actions, and often with our lips. Do remember that confessing and believing are two separate things, but both must work together within the life of a believer. I feel that when we confess Christ, He is pleased. So, let me provoke you to confess Him today.
