The Good News

Acts 14:7, “And there they preached the gospel.”

Many times throughout the scriptures the term “gospel” is used. This term literally means “the Good News of Christ Jesus.” Knowing this fact, I was the other day dwelling and praying upon the thought of the gospel. Such a blessed hope is brought from the joy of the gospel. It is by all means the good news. But as I deeply considered the whole aspect of the gospel, I became very aware that such good news is not only to be proclaimed through the written word. Yes, the bible is the gospel of Christ. All the way from Genesis to Revelation, it points to Christ, and speaks very clearly to us that He is the Answer to every situation. But, our text given above is speaking of two men of God that never had a written New Testament Bible to preach from. In fact, how could they read what had not yet even been written? It is, by very deeply taking this thought into consideration that the Lord laid it upon my heart what the fuller meaning of the good news, (the gospel of Christ) truly is.

The good news of Christ is not merely to be confined to the written word of God. I believe the gospel is more so when a man or woman becomes so filled with the Holy Ghost that, they are made pregnant with Christ, and deliver Him through their every actions, and literal Being. So in other words, the true good news can only be proclaimed in its entire fullness by someone that is so filled with the Holy Ghost that, in effect of their life being so yielded to Him, the literal life of Christ is preached through their conduct. So it is only able to be fully proclaimed through and by the constant living life in the Spirit.

In Acts chapter 13 we read where these same men that “preached the gospel” in Acts 14, was being ran out of towns for proclaiming the uncompromising Life of Christ as the only Light of the world. Paul and Barnabas were filled with Gods Spirit, and everywhere you read of them you find them preaching Christ. Beloved, this wasn’t simply just a message they had worked up and memorized. No! They were literally being the fullness of the Life of Christ. Such a manner of living is not produced by reading and studying only, but more so by being filled with the literal nature of Christ. It is only by being filled with the Spirit we can bring forth the fruit of the Spirit. Beloved, let us be filled with the Holy Ghost and joy as Paul and Barnabas (Acts 13:51, “And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.”).

To share the good news of Christ in its fullness, beloved, we must be filled with the Holy Ghost. We must become the gospel. We must be filled with the Good News, and let Him flow through us. By such a living in the Spirit, we can once more “turn the world upside down.” Be filled with Christ’s Spirit, and let Him live through you. Christ is the Good News, so we must be filled with His Spirit.
