Killing The Word

Matthew 13:22, “He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.”

Christ is here speaking of those that hear His words of teaching, and they allow it to come in but it never can take full root. I believe a lot of us today in the Church are in this same position. We must ask ourselves, why is it that the seed was received among thorns, and how can we get rid of the thorns? Today I desire for God to bring us to light on both of these questions.

The seed of God’s word is received among thorns simply because “the care of this world” is allowed to live in the heart of the receiver. When we become born again, we are called to be “doers of the word, and not hearers only” but when we allow the cares of this earthly life concern us over the extent of God’s desire, then we remain but hearers only of the word. We cannot receive the word in total affect if we have care for our own lives. In order to receive the word of God we must except that we are to “seek ye first the kingdom of God” and apply it by doing it daily. If we seek great riches, we make the word of none affect in our lives. If we tend to the fleshly cravings of this world and the care for more earth and less Heaven is in our mindset, then the word is being killed within us. Beloved, we must understand that to become “unfruitful” is the same as to “be hewn down and tossed in the fire.” When we let the word become dead in our thorny life, then Christ is made dead within us, and we become hell bound.

John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John is here speaking of Christ as being called “the Word.” Now let me submit to you that, to allow the word to become choked in us by “the care if this world, and the deceitfulness of riches” is equal with placing the Word, (Christ) in the tomb again. How tragic! We must obey the word of God in its fullness. We must receive it, and allow it to grow and work in and through us. We must stop being so earthly, caring for all our wants, and being fooled by the happiness of riches, and become totally controlled by the Holy Spirit, and allow our lives to be conformed to ever action, thought, desire and purpose of the Word. O, dear soul! Hear me! I beg you, don’t allow the “care of this world” to kill the Word in you. Don’t settle for anything less than complete conformity to Christ life, made known to you by the word of God. This is how we rid the thorns in our life. Don’t be a Christ killer, by suffocating the word. Either live by it now, or die by it later. Don’t desire death, over Life with the Word.
