Holiness is not merely a standard of living, but Holiness is a characteristic trait of God Almighty. No man can ever be more holy than the amount of Christ he possesses, or rather; no more holy than the amount he is Christ possessed. The Holy Spirit brings us to true Holiness. To become filled with the Holy Spirit means to become fully holy. One can never truly possess this attribute of God without being filled with the Holy Ghost. For the Holy Ghost continually molds our lives into the life of this Holy Christ we are born into, being born again.
Ephesians 1:3-4, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love.”
We hardly ever hear of the necessity of Holiness anymore. I am not referring to the Holiness that says “you must do this, and must not wear this” but the Holiness that is found by living in Christ through the Holy Spirit. When a life is being lived in the Spirit with the deepest desire to please God that is the point when true Holiness is being obtained. The life of the believer must be continually moving further with God and coming into greater volume of Gods Holiness. We have adopted the term “personal conviction” and out of that produced a body of Christ that is very mixed up, and not coming to know what true Holiness is. God never intended for there to be a “personal conviction” when it comes to Holiness. God only has one standard of Holiness and that is His Son. When we become born again we are born into the nature of Christ, He becomes our standard of Holiness. This is why the scripture says, “Be ye holy; for I am holy” because Christ becomes our Holiness and we must live His life. Hebrews 12:14, says “and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.” If our lives are not lived as holy lives, then it is a definite fact that we are not seeing the Lord nor living in His Spirit. For just as the Holy Spirit comes to reveal in us the Holiness of God, He also comes to reveal to us His Holiness simultaneously. The more Christ is revealed in us, the more we see Him and come to understand our areas of imperfection. So to consider ourselves a special case of Christianity and try adopt the term “personal conviction” to either our lives or someone else’s is in effect trying to say that the Christ in us needs a weaker or stronger method to be Himself through us. No. Christ died a sinless God man, He was raised the same, and He is that in us. If we try and personalize this Christ we do Him a great injustice. We must come to conformity to only one standard and that standard is the same for every Christian, which is Christ and Christ alone. We must answer this election of Holiness. Let us return to seeing the great need of this divine Characteristic being obtained only by allowing the divine Creator live it through us. Let us see we are selected and elected to be bearers of Holiness, and that the only way to answer and live within such a call is by living in the Holy Spirit continually.
