When we are born again we are made alive in Christ, but when we are filled with the Holy Ghost, Christ is made alive in us. So the born again experience is not truly lived in its entirety without the filling of the Holy Spirit. Today I would like to focus on the greatest desire of my heart through this writing. I pray both you and I would purchase these following statements with our whole lives.
“I am who He is, by Him being “I AM” in me through the baptism of the Holy Spirit.” These words sum up in brevity the work of the Holy Ghost. This is why it is essential for us to press beyond the boundaries of mere religion, and into the Spirit-filled life. When our life is totally possessed by the Holy Spirit, Christ will have no problem being seen in and through us. The Spirit-filled life will be a life of overcoming faith. When hellish circumstances arise in the life of a Spirit-filled believer, the Holy Ghost can control the environment and turn all things to the good for the believer through the life of the believer, if the believer will simply walk in the will of the Spirit and tightly clutch a faith that dares to believe that this Christ is all and can perform all. The Spirit-filled life will produce a life that is lived in power over every besetting sin, and translated into the literal life of the perfect Christ. The Spirit-filled life will make the believer a pure testimony and witness of the pure life of Christ within. The signs and wonders will follow the person that is living the Spirit-filled life, and this will only be produced out of the Spirit and never because of who that person is on their own.
When a life is lived in the Spirit, it is literally living in the highest form of existence known to mankind simply because the human is living the Life of the Supernatural. The Spirit-filled person must pay the price of his or her life to live in this place where all human flesh is made dead and Christ is living His life through them. This is nothing for us to take as lightly as we have in this modern day church. My every day deepest cry is to come to know Christ deeper, and be filled and live in that filling of the Spirit. We must desire to live this Spirit-filled life. Not that we may just have the great signs that follow, but that we may be living in the fullness of Christ redemptive work of Calvary.
I heard a story of an early Pentecostal Pioneer by the name of Smith Wigglesworth, which was spoken by B.H. Clendennen in a sermon he once gave. Brother Clendennen said that Brother Wigglesworth was on a train going to a place to preach, and although Smith never prayed over fifteen minutes he would pray every fifteen minutes. And as He was on the train, he must have gone to the back of the train car to pray, and he was wonderfully refilled with the Holy Spirit, as he many times was in his often praying. As he went back to his seat, a Roman Catholic Priest screamed out, “you convict me of sin!” and within two minutes the whole train car was weeping and asking, “what must we do to know this that is within you?!”
Beloved, if this man of God had been anything less than a Spirit-filled life, and not living in that Spirit continually, then it is very safe to say that dozens of people that day would have died and went to hell because of Spiritual negligence of a man. But because somebody pressed beyond the marks of religion and moved into the Spiritual, people was convicted of their sins and begging to know Christ, while not one word was uttered by the man of God. Let us grasp this! We must be filled and keep filled continually. I fear that we try to get by in life being filled as little as possible, for often times it is a rigged thing to be filled. Just let us comprehend that to live in the Spirit is the greatest complement of God to us, outside of sending His only Son to accomplish it for us. Beloved, let us come to know Christ and accomplish His work He called us to accomplish through being filled, and continually living in the Spirit-filled life.
Ephesians 5:18, “Be filled with the Spirit.”
