Romans 13:12, “The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.” Ephesians 6:11, “Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Galatians 3:27, “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” Ephesians 4:23-25, “And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.” Colossians 3:10-11, “And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.”
“Luke 24:49, “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.”
Beloved, all the verses above have one huge thing in common… Put On Christ. Over the course of these next few days, I desire to break all these verses down in a more simple way, but today we will simply start with Luke 24:49, “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.”
When first reading this verse it is very easy to overlook what is really being said. Christ is saying to His people and all those following that first generation Church a simple truth that must not be missed. Studying the word “endued” I soon found it meant more than what I really thought. It simply means to be clothed with, to put on as a garment. Christ is telling the Book of Acts Church, “you will be filled, and clothed with a Power that is above all known greatness. You will literally be clothed with my Life.” But in this wonderful filling of the Spirit, in this being clothed with His Being, we must pay the price. “Tarry ye…” is the condition of obtaining the promise of being endued with Life. He stood up to His word, the Spirit did come and fill the believers on the day of Pentecost, but they had to obey His command. There never would have been a Pentecost without first an obedient believer. Beloved, Christ still desires to clothe us with His Life, but we must realize with every promise comes a condition… we have to tarry until we die to our life, before His Life can be ours. Beloved, let us “tarry” and seek Him continually, until we are endued and clothed with the Life that is All Power… Christ Jesus, through the filling of the Holy Spirit.
