The Christ Definition of a Minister
Most of us in this 21first century have adapted the wrong idea of a true minister. When we say that we are a minister or speak of one who claims to be we most generally are referring to somebody who speaks upon platform. We often gage the person in which we call a minister by his leadership skills and his speaking ability. A lot of us associate the expertise of church growth with the quality of our minister and make this the telling statement of whether he should be deemed as good or bad. My point is that most of us totally have the wrong presumption of a genuine minister.
In Mark, 10:43-45, Jesus explains the true definition of a minister. Aside from all our religious beliefs Christ states “…whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
Christ undeniably was the greatest portrait of a minister and within this text He plainly exposed true ministry as a “servant of all” which gives their literal life to bring people to true relationship with God. Beloved, we all are called not to fancy suits and big building programs but to be a minister of God. God is calling us to be a people in which counts their physical body but as a vehicle to serve Christ to men and themselves to Christ. We are to be servants in action, not just word, uttering our fleshly life void and wasted in the eyes of the world in order to glorify Christ in ALL. We are to simply give up all life to others for His Purpose. We are to be totally at His disposal to death itself. This was is the true ministry folks! Seeing such now let us all ask ourselves if we are living within the “Christ definition” of a minister. Remember beloved, the true minister is Christ, all we must do is totally yield ourselves to Him. Do not forget the rewards of giving your all daily to the call of Christ. Wherever your love ends is where your ministry ends, for you will never give to what you do not love.
The Wife’s Note: Firefly Christian
We were at a tent revival this past Wednesday night in Columbus Ohio. As I was standing during the altar call I noticed a few green lights start to flash around the tent. As it got darker more little green lights started to appear. This little green light was none other than fireflies. I stood there and began to think about these little creatures. How amazing it was for something so small to catch a person’s eye like they do and how much light just one can put off. I remembered being a little kid and catching them in glass jars. I would catch as many as I could and sit them in my room next to my bed because the light amazed me. I was drawn to it. Fireflies are bioluminescent meaning they must put off light for survival.
Then it hit me we are to bring light to this darkened world….Matthew 5 :(14-15) says “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.”
We are called as Christians to bring light to this world. Imagine this, if a little firefly can catch the attention of a human how much more can Christ? Christ is that light within us. We must allow him to shine. The best thing about allowing our light to shine is that the light within us will not just catch someone’s attention it can save their soul. Christ is not looking to just catch someone’s attention but to save souls, too turn lives around, to put our feet on the solid rock and establish our goings. We as Christians must allow light to shine in order to survive in this dark world. Don’t be afraid or scared to allow your light to shine. We are told that we are the light of the world. Oh how happy that should make us that we were chosen for this purpose!

Amen brother Buddy I totally agree with you...I've learned after many years of pastoring, to be a good minister it requires humility and becoming a servant to all. Until that happens, you really have no ministry. :) Thank you for these great words..love you and Kirsten
