Hebrews 12:15 (King James Version)
Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled
(My View)
This was at first a hard verse for me to comprehend, but as I prayed and dwelled upon this in my mind, I gather that the writer is just simply saying “be careful. Lookout for your fellow soldiers! Don’t let any small selfish seeds fall into your heart, for it will bring a huge tree you wont be able to cut down very easy. And not only will you be in a big mess… but your fellow soldiers may very well trip over your roots.”
(Keep This In Mind)
It only takes one pumpkin to start a pumpkin patch! Don’t let one sinful thing fall in your heart and bring forth a whole patch of death.
(The Breakdown)
Be steadily looking with all seriousness of heart at all times for the better of your fellow soldiers of the cross, to make sure that they don’t fall away from the Grace of God, or miss the mark and fall back to the old ways of flesh and lay down their cross (and backslide), so that no seed of bitterness (hatred and resentment) be dropped in your heart and bring forth life to a root, which develops into a full grown tree (which brings forth complete spiritual death) and will cause you a world of trouble, and make many other soldiers around become contaminated and impure because of your actions (tripping them over the roots of your bitterness and hatred.)
(Last Thought)
Lord!! De-root my heart. Make the soil of my heart be pure. Plant holy seeds of faith and love and mercy where sin, lust and all flesh once was. I want to become more like you!! I don’t want my life to trip any fellow soldier of the cross. Help me. amen
