Today in the church world, we have so many people that come to know only very little about this great Christ we serve. We get so satisfied with so little. “Why do we do this?” you ask. Beloved, it is simply because we are still yet too in love with this world. We are to busy with the care of our earthly desires.
I have a rather comical story, from in which this very writing thought was birthed. The day before yesterday, my brother and I was up about eleven or twelve o’clock in the evening, studying the word. All at once my stomach started growling. And apparently his must have also. I looked up to my dad, who was getting ready to go to bed, and said, “I am hungry!” He looked up and said, “it is late, eat something in the fridge.” Jacob came back and said, “there isn’t any food that sounds good in there.” And me thinking hard on how to get this hunger filled, after a second of thought said, “Taco Bell is open!” Well, very swiftly, my brother agreed with me, and continued to ask my dad to take us and get us something from Taco Bell. After I had given up hope on the thought of those nice crunchy tacos, I went back to my deep study. But my brother was persistent, even as my mom and dad both went to bed. He continued to say, “dad please take me to taco bell.” So after my parents had laid down about the time of five minutes, I heard a rustling noise, felt the motor home move, and then seen my dad back in front of my brother, ready to go to town and get some tacos. He said “lets go.” and very speedily my brother had his shoes on, and was out the door. But me, I was to busy. I had a good work going. I couldn’t stop to go eat. So I said, “just bring me mine back!” After giving my order, they left and I continued on my busy way. After about 30 minutes I was getting really hungry waiting on them to get back, so I called them, and found that they had already eaten, and was getting ready to order my request. When they got back, tossed me the bag of food, I opened it up, and to my surprise, I found where someone had ordered dessert, and the crumbs was in my bag. And not only that, my dad had went to Wendy’s drive-thru, and bought a nice chocolate frosty. (one if my favorite desserts) when seeing this, I got upset, and said, “hey! You didn’t tell me you was going to get dessert! And on top of that, my food is cold from the drive back” My dad just looked over at me, and said, “well son, I asked you to go.”
Beloved, I didn’t write all of this to tell you a story about food. As soon as my dad said those words to me, I immediately thought of how we as Christians, come up so short, when our Heavenly Father wants to give us more. Why cant we receive more? It is simple beloved. It is because we don’t go all the way with Him. He not only desires to give us enough spiritual food to fill our hunger. No! He desires to give us dessert also! And in all that, enjoy fellowship with Him! But the blessing can only fully come, to those that go all the way.
