In the building of the tabernacle in the wilderness, found in the old testament, God gave clear directions on how to build, and how the priest, and people was to conduct themselves, when built. The layout structure consisted of this, the outer court, the Holy Place, and the Holiest of All (also known as the Holy of Holies). The outer court is where the people would come to offer their sacrifices. In this area, you would find many people receiving forgiveness for their sins. The alter of sacrifice was found there, the washbasin (the place where the priest would wash their hands and feet before entering the Holy Place). This was all set up, by God, for a representation of the new way of worship that was to come with Christ’ death. Everyone was welcomed to come to the place of sacrifice for sin, so everyone would come to the outer court. But only the priests could enter beyond, and into the Holy Place. Inside the Holy Place, was the lamp stand, in which the Holy Oil, lit the darkness of the room. Also in the Holy Place, was the table of shewbread, and the alter of incense. These was all duties that was to be performed by the priests’. Only one time a year, the High Priest would move beyond the veil, and into the Most Holy Place. He would, on the day of atonement, move carefully, and with great Holy fear, into the Holiest of All. The Holiest of All, was a small room, that was separated from the Holy Place, by a veil (a blanket of some type, that was used as a means of concealment). See, inside the Holiest of All, was the Ark of the Covenant. This was a very important tool given by God, to His people. It was literally where Gods presence was found. God would come and rest upon the Ark of the Covenant, in between the two winging cherubim’s, in the form of a cloud. So take note, this is literally where God would be met in person. But in the form of a cloud, He would come and rest on the Mercy Seat, in between the winged cherubim’s.
Now I have said all that, to bring us here, Psalms 91:1, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” You ask, “what does this have to do with any of this?” Do allow me to explain, my dear friend. The psalm that King David wrote, was truly speaking of a man that could live in the Holiest of All. Take note, this was not possible under the Old Covenant! But remember our text yesterday! Hebrews 2:11, “For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one.” Beloved, remember, this means that through our relationship with Christ, and becoming born again, we are made one with Christ. In other words, what He is… and who we are becoming, (by Him living His life through us) is the same. For we are taking, continually, on us, His image… and His total life. So think back to this, Christ took upon Himself all our sins, and became our High Priest, and rent the veil that stopped us from being able to enter into the Holiest of all. Simply put, He became the offering, and the High Priest! Beloved, grasp this, we are made… what He is. What am I saying? I am saying, through this living the life of Christ, we have become High Priests along with Christ. Don’t make a mistake… it is not by us. It is only by literally living His life! This is how we may come to the Holiest of All! But remember, before the veil, that led into the Holiest of All, there was a very important piece. This was the alter of incense. The second alter we find in the tabernacle. The first was the alter of sacrifice, this was in the outer court, and is where we find forgiveness of sins, through the shed blood of Christ. Sadly, beloved, this is where most believers have stopped today. Just simply being satisfied with a cleansing experience. Never trying to press on, into the Holy Place, or the Holiest of All. Realize, we now have access to these places, if we follow the steps. We must first come to the washbasin. This is a representation of sanctification. Before we can ever be in the presence of a thrice Holy God, we must be somewhat sanctified. For He is no casual, unholy God. After we come to a place of sanctification, we move to the alter of incense. This is that second alter… which I believe to be a representation of the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Then and only then, can we move into the Holiest of All. We must stop making this Holy Ghost optional, I do desire the filling of the Holy Ghost. And I believe we must have it to dwell in this secret place of the Most High. Beloved, realize the importance, and necessity of moving beyond, into the Holiest of All. This is were we can meet God, as He is! And as He desires to be known by us.
Beloved, when we come to this dwelling, (this place of literally living in the total greatness of God Almighty) then we find, that we are abiding, (or literally living) under the shadow, (as if God is standing before us, and His shadow protects us from the painful rays of the sun) of God Almighty!! Beloved!! Grasp this! No power in hell can compass us, and overtake us! For one, we are literally living the life of Christ! And two, by this living His life through us, and sanctifying us, and filling us with the Holy Ghost, we have access to live in the shadow of God Almighty. So lets come to this place! Where we live, in the Holiest of All.
