Acts 11:26, “And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.”
I opened up my bible, getting ready to read and study what I was to write you today, and as I thumbed through the word, I found myself stopped in the passage just quoted above. As I read the notes that went along with this verse I just felt that I should write about this particular topic.
The followers of Christ were mainly called believers, or saints, or something of that sort, until they received the label of Christians in Antioch. This is believed to have been a label to the saints that was to seem as a derogatory term, insulting them. But, the main thought I want to provoke in our minds today in this generation that throws terms around so freely is, we label ourselves Christians but are we truly living the life that deserves the name? Can I submit unto you the true reason these believers were ever in the first place labeled Christians is simply because they so presented the life of Christ that the world had no other choice but as to label them such a name. Are we truly living such a life, beloved? What does it even truly take to live a life that is fulfilling the bounds of this term? Beloved, there is only but one answer …we must walk in the Holy Spirit. We can never fully live within the realms of true Christianity without continually walking in the Life, Character and total Nature of Christ. These Book of Acts believers would have simply been a group of wonderers if they had not received the Holy Ghost, for they never could have lived this Christian life on their own. Christ has to live His life through us, and although we are Born Again by the blood of Christ, we are made to continue living by the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Beloved, the Holy Ghost is the fulfilling of the Born Again experience. He is the last revelation of God Almighty, He is the Breath of God, and the literal express Nature of God, the Mind of Christ, and the sustainer of the Life of Christ in us. To be a Christian means “to be Christ-like” and these believers, though of new natures before the day of Pentecost, were not living the Life of Christ, so therefore they were not Christ-like until after the baptism of the Holy Ghost was made real in them. Dear soul let us totally live in the fullness of our name. Let us be filled with the Holy Ghost that Christ may live through us, and we may be true Christians. If you are Born Again, seek the filling until you get it. It is the will of God for you to be filled, for He desires to reveal His Son in your life through the Holy Ghost being alive in you. Let us be alive in Christ, born into His nature, and living His life. Let us be true Christians.
