John 15:9-10, “As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.”
I was asking the Lord last Sunday night before the evening service for a verse of scripture that I could hold on to in my heart and even share with the people for a testimony, and as I opened my bible, it fell to these words, “continue ye in my love.” At that moment I felt the Lord was truly giving me a word from Him in a very crucial hour. I was sitting on that pew, at that moment, needing Him to speak those words to my dull heart. As many times happens in this journey with Christ, I have become very worn out from my travels, and very exhausted in my spiritual life of struggling with the flesh. I feel the war of Life and death within me so strong over the past few months. I feel the victory call and have come to realize that there is a place in Christ of complete victory, and I have been laboring with the flesh and God pressing on toward the mark of victory in Jesus. So as I was sitting there in that pew I was feeling the weight of the battle. I felt empty from warring and neglect. I needed Him to speak life once more or I was going down. Then He spoke it… “Continue ye in my love.” He understands my frame, He realizes my struggles, He is jealous over my life with Him. One of the greatest things I have ever come to comprehend is that this Great God isn’t looking to get rid of me when I fall; He wants to pick me up and bring me closer if I will just continue in His love. When He spoke these words into my life that evening, I immediately realized what continue meant for me. He was telling me that to continue in His love means there has to be something I am pressing against. He was telling me to endure and find my strength in His love. We find our strength in His love by being obedient to His commands. Look at verse 10, “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.” What commandments is He speaking of? He is speaking of His word and will. Everything He deals with us about will always go back to His word and His word will always lead us to His will. When we abide and continue in His word to the best of our ability He is pleased and we are right smack-dab in the middle of His love. “So have I loved you” He says speaking of His coming to earth to die, we must also die to ourselves to continue in His love. I encourage myself with these words and I pray you do also. Let us press against the flesh. Let us keep moving forward in Christ! Let us continue in His love.
