Faith That Conquers

Ephesians 6:16, “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.”


Over the past few days we have covered the total armor of God except for this last crucial piece. We have seen that the only Salvation is literally Christ. We have come to understand that the only Righteousness that this mortal body can put on is Christ’s Life. To gird our loins with Truth is simply impossible in our flesh, for in us no truth lies at all… but He is that Truth by which we are to be girded with. The Gospel of Peace is the Being of Christ alone, He is our only source of Peace. The Sword of the Spirit, which is the defensive armor, being the Life of the Bible which is simply the Triune Godhead, is the proclamation of victory through faith and total surrender to Christ’s revelation given by the Holy Spirit as being the Word so that He as the Word can be the only Overcoming Life through us. Christ is in simplicity Everything! But our text says, “Above all, taking the shield of faith…”

I began to wonder why the writer put such an emphasis on the need of faith. Why did he go as far as to say “above all…”? The Lord has showed me why this great demand is placed on the shield of faith. Every other part of the armor is speaking of literally putting on Christ’s Life through our dying to flesh and allowing Him to Live, but “without faith it is impossible to please God” or to even be a Christian. We will never obtain this battle garment of Life… unless we “have faith that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” When we dig our heels in the Holy Ghost ground and say, “I will not be shaken in my faith to my Jesus, I will believe even if I die and go to hell I will go there trusting and holding deepest faith that He knows best and is working His plan through me! I will simply hold faith!” then the Holy Spirit can began to rid us of our life so that the Life of Jesus may be made alive through us. He cannot ever work His full perfect work in us unless we have the shield of faith. Don’t misunderstand, the Holy Ghost is what produces that faith in totality within us, but we must first make the effort to believe He will. It simply boils down to this… Christ Life is the main goal for our being here. The plan is Him to Live and us to die to ourselves. He is All… and He must become All within, and through us. For Christ to be the Armor of Life, as these past few days readings has brought us to see Him as, we must “Above all” take the shield of faith! Christ can and will be All… but we must hold faith that He is and will be that in and through us. This is the key to Life; no amount of death can stand against Life! No enemy can stand against Christ… just hold faith and believe He is that Life… He is… THE CHRIST!!
