Forgetting The Onions

As I was thinking over the story of the exodus, about how the God I serve and love delivered His people from the slave camp, I remembered how that after God had done so much for them, they soon found themselves dreaming of the leaks and onions they had back in Egypt.

Numbers 11:5-6, “We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic: But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.”

How heartbreaking! The wonderful God, Jehovah, the only true Living God… had taken a people called to be His own. He chose them to proclaim His name, and He would lavish His wonderful blessings on them as a King would His fair wife. He would love them, go before them and prepare promised lands just for their good dwelling. He would allow Heavenly bread to fill their stomachs. But they could not even break their Egypt mentality. They wanted the life blessings of God… but not His Life. They in essence had one foot of mind in Egypt while the other was on the sands to the promised land. After showing His people His mighty power over and over again, just let a red sea come before them and they are ready to go back to the slime pits and mortar making positions of slaves back in Egypt. Let that hot desert sand start burning their feet, and just watch at the bitter waters as they murmur and remember the slave bound life. Let them get the bread from Heaven and they get tired of such, and they are ready to return to their imprisoned life for a few leaks and onions.

Beloved, have you left the onions behind yet? It is faithlessness and selfishness that calls you back to the slave camp. God called you out of the sin camp. You may be walking this Glory bound highway to Heaven, but if you are longing for the leaks and onions of Egypt while in your desert test, then you need to swiftly gain control of yourself. He will not let any Egypt onion lovers enter in, and if you don’t believe that this Great God can bring you through any desert, taking care of all your needs, then you are in essence asking God to let you go back to Egypt for the leaks and onions. Don’t smack this King of All Kings in the face with your unbelief and lusting over your own selfish appetite. Except God’s Life, not simply trying to milk Him for the blessings. Make up your mind to serve Him every moment of every day… live or die. Beloved, you must either get in… or get out. Make up your mind to leave the slave camp and the slave mentality behind with the onions… or leave God. God will not except the soul that will not move from the middle ground. You are either in… or out. Forget the onions… and live off of the Heavenly Bread… or go the way of the world to the bottomless pit of anguish.
