“Hey boy’s, Mamaw and Papaw Huff are coming over today!” mom would say with a cheerful vibe. We always loved it when our grandparents would come over. “Are they bringing Taco?!” either me or Jacob would ask. We really liked playing with the dog but sometimes he would try an bite at our socks, which normally were stretched out and would flop when we walked fast. Taco, just being a normal playful doggy, loved to chase our flopping socks. We liked to tease him as we would run from couch to couch, jumping real fast to assure ourselves we wouldn’t get bit. When we would get tired we would simply pull our legs to our chest and guard our toes, feeling totally safe as long as on the couch we stayed put.
As I was reading in my personal study yesterday I came across these following verses:
Psalms 27:1-6 NLT
1“The Lord is my light and my salvation—
so why should I be afraid?
The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger,
so why should I tremble?
2 When evil people come to devour me,
when my enemies and foes attack me,
they will stumble and fall.
3 Though a mighty army surrounds me,
my heart will not be afraid.
Even if I am attacked,
I will remain confident.
4 The one thing I ask of the Lord—
the thing I seek most—
is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
delighting in the Lord’s perfections
and meditating in his Temple.
5 For he will conceal me there when troubles come;
he will hide me in his sanctuary.
He will place me out of reach on a high rock.
6 Then I will hold my head high
above my enemies who surround me.
At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy,
singing and praising the Lord with music.”
As I came to the end of verse 5 I begin to rejoice. The Lord, will place us in a safe place above the threat before us. As I thought about this verse it brought back the little story of Taco. I always found my safe place where he couldn’t reach me. I knew the couch was as a haven to me from actual pain, just as I now know Christ has a haven for me also. He wants to sit me on a rock that is higher than my enemies bite. Beloved, He is the Rock, and in Him is a safe place from all. I know this has been a very weak illustration but stop running from your problems today, and find that safe place of rest and comfort in the Rock.
