It was rainy that day when my friends came to see me. I always had considered myself blessed to have such friends that would take time out of their day just to care for me. Being paralyzed like I was is no fun at all, but I learned that true friends are a real gem. My buddies came by this particular rainy day with the gossip of the town as usual. But Capernaum had some Good News this day! They told me about a Man called Jesus of Nazareth. They were speaking of His ability to heal but what really perked my ears to attention was the fact that they said He was the Son of God! “What if this Jesus could forgive me of my sins?!” I wondered as my friends continued to speak so highly of Him. I could tell that they knew what they were speaking of because I could see a certain change of expression upon their lives. Almost like a holy glow so to speak. They said that they know for hard rock sure He is the Son of God because He had forgiven them of their sins also! I didn’t have to beg too much for them to take me to see the Savior for they were longing to just see Him again themselves. So they loaded me up, mat and all, and took me to where He was staying. When we arrived at the house the crowd was nearly overwhelming! We couldn’t even see Jesus for the multitude of people just trying to be near Him. The hope of my Salvation grew dim as I looked at all the people who wouldn’t be able to get to see Jesus. I knew that there would be no way in myself I could be saved without Him being near. But just when I thought all hope was lost my friends picked me up and began to carry me to the back of the house. They took me upon the rooftop and began to dig into the roof. They dug a hole big enough to fit me through, and began to lower me in front of Jesus. As the onlookers whispered at the desperation of my attempt to reach Jesus, I seen Him! He came my way, and before I could even make my petition He spoke unto me “My Son, your sins are forgiven you.” At that moment the guilt of a lifetime was removed and I was made totally forgiven! But then He turned to the religious leaders as if He knew what they were thinking and said, “Why do you question this? Is it easier for me to say to this paralyzed man ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up, pick up your mat, and keep on walking’? So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority to forgive sins.” Then with so much love He turned back to me and softly said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go on home.” Believing in His authority to forgive I trusted His ability heal, and I jumped up as the power of God overshadowed me. I grabbed my mat that I had laid on so many years, dreaming of walking again, and I placed it under my arm and walked through the crowd of stunned followers. As I walked out the door to find my friends and hug their necks, I overheard the crowd behind praising God for the authority of Jesus to forgive sins and to heal. So here I am today! Totally healed and totally saved by the authority of Jesus. Consider Him today if you have any need. Especially if you need forgiveness.
To find my story in the Scriptures read Mark Chapter 2.
