A Snake In Your Garden

“You can have just a little taste if you desire it. This will make you the god of your own life, you wont have to answer to the God of Heaven over this matter any longer.” says the soothing serpent with his soft undertone voice. You become intrigued with the desire to have the easy way out of holding your flesh in place and obeying God’s desire. You respond by saying, “Yes… just today wouldn’t hurt anything. I mean after all God knows that I get tired of living like that. This one thing could never really hurt my relationship with Him that much. Why not just indulge sometimes for myself?” As you reach your hand in the wrong direction going after the fruit of self-desire the serpent slithers his forked tongue and gains a smirk for a smile. “There you go…” he says as your fingers touch the forbidden fruit. “See, God hasn’t struck you dead yet and you have already went this far… take it and eat. Beloved, nothing will ever happen. I will tell you when you are going to far.” he lies. You take and sink your teeth into the fruit that tastes so wonderful at the first bite as the serpent now rests upon your shoulder. “God made this garden for you do you not think He wants you to enjoy all of it? He was just saying all that stuff about death to just scare you so you will always serve Him out of fear. I told you that you could believe me… He still hasn’t struck you dead and just look at how good that fruit is!!” he boldly says, ever so gently wrapping himself around your neck as a noose. You did not have to allow this. You could have put the devil in his place through the redemptive power of Christ but you decided to follow your own desire for self. Beloved, if you are beginning to slip back to the desires of your self nature you best beware! Why throw away the garden of Gods blessing and provision for you just to have the one fruit of self in your spirit? Every newborn Christian is brought into this Garden of provision that Christ has made available by Himself. In fact, Christ Himself is the Garden, but you must watch and pray lest you let the sly serpent in the gate. Do not follow self-desire! Overcome in the Power of God’s might! Resist the silver tongued serpent and through Christ he must leave!! Do not let a snake in your Garden.
